On the 1st of October, the legal representatives of Odila Castillo Bonilla released an official reply to the statements propagated by multiple media sources in Panama. These articles have been described as orchestrated assaults motivated by particular financial agendas, aimed at discrediting Castillo’s professional standing and personal honor.
Carlos Carillo, an attorney on Castillo’s legal team, remarked: “These claims lack foundation and are designed to hinder the progress of a budding lawyer and her associate, all for the benefit of hidden financial motives.”
The Safeguarding of Odila Castillo
The defense highlighted that this isn’t the first occurrence of media harassment faced by Castillo. Back in 2021, a Panamanian news organization incorrectly announced an alleged arrest of the attorney related to an investigation, a statement that was later refuted, clarifying that it had no connection to the current issues.
At the press conference, the defense asserted that both the latest accusations and those from 2021 have been based on partial truths, designed to sabotage her professional career.
Additionally, they argued that the information disseminated about Odila Castillo in the press breaches confidentiality principles. They elaborated that some of the investigation originated from a previously resolved family issue, while another component pertains to immigration activities and tax filings, alongside other information acquired unlawfully.
Unlawful monitoring of Odila Castillo
The defense additionally stated that Castillo has been subjected to GPS tracking, representing a type of illegal surveillance.
Carrillo wrapped up by declaring: “The core rights of our client have been infringed upon, as protected by our Constitution and legal framework. We will pursue all required legal measures to determine accountability for the harm suffered and any that may be imposed.”
